Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) will sign a deal made by lawmakers to tax sales of recreational cannabis at 9%, a spokesperson said, after the state’s voters approved legalization last year.
Sales go live on July 1, and lawmakers cleared identical bills (HB 0556, SB 0516) with final votes just before the close of the legislative session—the House on a 104-35 tally April 8, the Senate by a 33-13 vote Monday. In addition to establishing the tax rate, the bill includes licensing and regulatory details.
