TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) — Police seized drugs and guns while serving a search warrant at Best Buds Depot in Trotwood Wednesday morning.

Around 9 a.m. on April 24, police seized a large amount of marijuana along with 18 guns at the location on Salem Avenue. The owners are facing drug trafficking, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia charges.

“I don’t care what law they pass. Drugs and guns is never a good combination,” said Trotwood Police Chief Erik Wilson.

According to the Secretary of State’s website, Goldwasser Smoke and Vape LLC filed the fictitious name Best Buds Depot on Jan. 20 of this year. Though now offline, their website advertised live resin carts and claimed to be the first in Ohio to sell legal THC products.

“If you go on the Division of Cannabis Control for the state of Ohio, who is the guest regulatory body for marijuana? They have this on their website. Currently, there are no individuals or entities licensed to sell non-medical cannabis in the state of Ohio and any sale of marijuana prior to non-medical licenses being issued may be subject to criminal penalties,” said Wilson.

Police say people bought marijuana at the location that was above the state-approved THC limit under Issue 2. Although recreational marijuana is legal in Ohio, there is no framework to sell it legally so far. A deadline for rules has been set for September.

Around noon today, the business shared this message on Facebook:

We’ve had an issue with our shipping and a major misunderstanding between the shippers and law enforcement. We’ve had to shut down temporarily until we can get everything straightened out. Please be patient and thank you all in advance for understanding. Peace and love.

Currently, investigators are waiting for THC results from the collected marijuana. The business remains open and the investigation is ongoing.
