The international counterculture weed holiday — 4/20 — is fast approaching — and New Jersey has made progress in opening up dispensaries across the state.
Whether it’s the state’s first legal pot brownie or more stores, customers have additional shopping options this year.
Roughly a year ago there were 30 dispensaries in the state. Now, there are more than 120 spread across all but one of the state’s 21 counties.
South Jersey counties rank high as a popular destination with ample space and a cheaper real estate market than in North Jersey.
Additionally, the state has issued more than 160 licenses for businesses to open up. Those licenses cover retail stores, cultivation and manufacturing. Not every business that’s been given a license is operating yet, but they too will influence New Jersey’s weed market.
Here’s the list of how many cannabis stores are located in each county:
21. Salem County
It’s the only county that doesn’t have stores open according to the most recent data from the state’s Cannabis Regulatory Commission, but the agency has issued two cannabis licenses.
20. Sussex, Cumberland and Cape May
These counties have just one dispensary each. As of April 2023, Sussex has a total of five cannabis licenses. Cumberland has six and Cape May has two.
17. Morris
Morris County has two dispensaries
16. Ocean and Hunterdon
