It started in 1936. The cinema was the new entertainment and a pop culture phenomenon across the United States. The movie, Reefer Madness was released during the period the talkie industry was gaining momentum. It was silent, but the stark imagery and grossly distorted portrayal of the effects of cannabis use left an indelible mark on the American psyche, culture and politics. Through the years, the public has been subject to a barrage of negative propaganda about the cannabis plant, its users, and effects. From the egg sizzling in a frying pan to the leader of the free world’s wife asking kids to “Just Say No.” Media was the most effective weapon in the arsenal of the War on Drugs.

To this day, clinicians who prescribe cannabis attest to a significant period of de-programming through education, research and really just talking to patients. Today, we have an opportunity to counter the indoctrination with the very same tools: the media. This time, with the truth.

Sovereign City Entertainment Inc. a Caribbean/US based media production outfit is stepping up with The Legacy Project, a 7-part documentary series. The series will dismantle the fabric of the specific failures of the War on Drugs. From over policing, mass incarceration, family separation, immigration restrictions, lack of medical research and expungement are all facets of the failures of the War on Drugs that need to be addressed and rectified.

Production is slated to begin in Vienna, Austria during the 67th Session of Commission on Narcotic Drugs this March. The team has partnered with participating nonprofits and NGOs to show the inner workings of the United Nations and how global policies are made and changed.

US production will start shortly thereafter, with a prison cell set-up similar to that used by 40-Tons at MJBizCon 2023, to conduct interviews and as an interesting backdrop to the industry’s truth. The director wants to convey the stark differences between the realities of those building the legal industry and those lamenting in prison the same activity.

The Producers are fundraising and have secured SIMA Studios as their official Fiscal Sponsor, which will allow them to receive tax-deductible contributions to get the series made and out to distributors during the current election cycle.
