New Mexico’s Cannabis Control Division sent out a helpful reminder to residents and visitors: Consume Safely Ahead of “Springtime Events”.

I think the “Springtime Event” they’re talking about is 4/20, which is this Saturday. But, nowhere in the document do they mention 4/20 at all. Instead, they’re “urging cannabis consumers to follow the laws and practice safe consumption this spring”.
Then it talks about “more outdoor events” with the coming of spring…but I think we all know they’re talking about this Saturday, 4/20/24.
Their tips include the ones you’d expect like, “Never drive under the influence of cannabis” and “keep cannabis out of the reach of children”. Things I think everyone would agree with. At least in principle.
Then it’s got a few that everyone “knows” but no one actually follows. Such as, “Cannabis bought in New Mexico should stay in New Mexico”. The number of cars with Texas plates at dispensaries along the “Green Mile” in Sunland Park would seem to indicate that one isn’t really taken all that seriously by consumer or dispensaries alike.

Everybody knows you’re breaking the law if you bring cannabis into Texas from New Mexico. TECHNICALLY, it’s also against the law to take New Mexico weed into, say, Colorado…ANOTHER state that has recreational cannabis sales. I’m saying it again: it’s only a matter of time before somebody sets up a checkpoint busting people from bringing Colorado weed into New Mexico or vice versa.
There are other tips on the list that might come as a surprise to most. The press release says you’re only supposed to buy cannabis from “CCD-licensed dispensaries”. But, it goes on to say, “Cannabis may NOT be purchased at special events such as festivals, expos, or competitions”. Who knew?
