NJ marijuana taxes will apply the state’s sales tax of 6.625% to recreational cannabis, any additional state sales tax is prohibited. This municipal tax could be up to 2% on recreational cannabis.
New Jersey Public Question 1
New Jersey bills A21/S21 are being highly criticized for their lack of social equity. Under A21/S21 there’s no tax allocation for community reinvestment, no automatic expungement, no definition of ‘equity’ nor designation for licensing, no license expansion of mmj program, no home grow. New Jersey is one of the top three states for cannabis arrests. With the legislation not yet complete or passed. Licenses may not happen in New Jersey for over a year.
