Alliance for Community Transformations (ACT), a Bennington-based youth substance use prevention coalition, announces an initiative aimed at promoting responsible cannabis use. In collaboration with local retailers, ACT has distributed free lockable stash bags across the community, ensuring safe and secure storage for cannabis, vape, and tobacco products.

“Keep Your Green Unseen” is an effort to emphasize responsible consumption practices and cannabis safety.

According to the Northern New England Poison Center, accidental ingestion of cannabis by children is increasing. The Vermont Department of Health reports that cannabis was one of the top three most common substances involved in unintentional nonfatal overdoses resulting in visits to the emergency department for children under 10 in 2022.

The bags offer a practical solution to store cannabis products securely, minimizing the risk of unintended access by children or pets. They also include educational materials on cannabis safety at home and resources on the health impacts of cannabis use.

If you choose to have cannabis in your home, especially in edible forms, be sure to keep it out of reach of children, in a locked location, and away from all food and medicines. Avoid handling or using cannabis edibles in front of children.

Individuals interested in obtaining a free lockable stash bag are encouraged to visit participating Bennington retailers Juniper Lane, Silver Therapeutics, or Yott’s Market, while supplies last.
