The following is a news release from Alliance for Youth.

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Cannabis policy expert and author Ben Cort will be in Great Falls on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, for a community conversation on prevention of underage cannabis use and impaired driving.

The event runs from 1:00-3:00 pm at Alliance for Youth, 3220 11th Ave. S., Great Falls, Montana. This event is free and open to the public.

Cort is the author of Weed, Inc.: the Truth about THC, the Pot Lobby & the Commercial Marijuana Industry. He is touring Montana communities to discuss effective policies to discourage underage use and impaired driving based on his experience in the state of Colorado and the addiction treatment field

The event is co-sponsored by a statewide coalition of partners seeking to stop addiction before it starts, including Montana Alliance of Prevention (MAP), Alliance for Youth, Cascade County Substance Abuse Prevention Alliance (SAPA) and Great Falls Cascade County Crimestoppers.

“Cannabis use has risen amongst Missoula high school youth since adult-use or ‘recreational’ cannabis was legalized,” said Beth Price Morrison, chair of the Cascade County Substance Abuse Prevention Alliance (SAPA). “We have the opportunity to learn from other states that have legalized before us, which is why we are happy for the opportunity to bring an expert like Ben Cort to our community.”

Cort has been active in shaping cannabis policy in his home state of Colorado and on a national level as a board member of Smart Approaches to Marijuana. He has been in recovery since 1996 and helped found the Phoenix organization that uses sport to combat addiction.

Cort’s Great Falls presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer period with members of the audience.
