MICHIGAN—Cannabis is a big deal in Michigan—and there’s never a shortage of newsworthy headlines from the industry as the state inches closer to becoming the nation’s weed capital.

Here are nine things you need to know this week:

GREEN GOLD: Nearly $289 million worth of marijuana products were reportedly sold at nearly 800 dispensaries across Michigan last month—marking another all-time state record for monthly sales. More than 30 new dispensary licenses were approved in January and February, indicating the state hasn’t yet reached market saturation as more stores lead to more sales.

GROUNDED: A 28-year-old Detroit-area woman is facing criminal charges after she reportedly tried to board a flight to London carrying two suitcases that were filled with 74 pounds of weed.

ANOTHER ONE: JARS Cannabis has reportedly opened a third dispensary in Macomb County, this time in Chesterfield Township. The company now operates 21 stores across Michigan.

CANNABIS CAMP: A new campground opening this summer in Muskegon is billing itself as the state’s first “cannabis campground,” where guests can buy and smoke weed on the premises.

GUMMIES FOR GRANDPA: A recent market analysis from the Northern Express suggests that more older Michiganders are buying weed this year—particularly in edible and beverage form.

MEET AND GREET: B-Real of Cypress Hill is stopping by Dr. Greenthumb’s in Detroit from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, April 22. Live music and food trucks will also be there throughout the day.

BLACK MARKET BUST: Authorities reportedly seized several pounds of illegally grown marijuana from a business in Oakfield Township after a local school resource officer had reported that the business was selling marijuana (and vape pens) to high school students.

NEW IN ANN ARBOR: Another dispensary (Meds Cafe) is reportedly planning to open a new retail location this year in the former Green Planet dispensary on Tappan Street in Ann Arbor. The company is also planning to launch another dispensary in Gaylord, according to its website.

UP NORTH MUNCHIES: Northern Michigan is filled with great dispensaries—many of which are located right next to some amazing restaurants. The Northern Express has the full guide.
