JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Missouri’s Division of Cannabis Regulation has shown “unprecedented efforts to ensure compliance,” according to the first annual report to analyze its efficiency.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services says that on Friday, Oct. 11, its Division of Cannabis Regulation published its first annual Missouri Medical and Adult Use Cannabis Program report. The department is required to submit a report to the Governor and General Assembly each year about the division’s efficiency.
After voters approved the state’s medical program and the DHSS implementation in 2018, it said it expanded dramatically in 2023 with the passage of an amendment to the Missouri Constitution.
Leaders noted that the provision meant adult use became legal and the regulation responsibilities for the new industry were added to the Department. The annual report highlights actions taken to implement constitutional provisions and more.
“We saw significant and unprecedented efforts to ensure compliance, public health and safety, and financial opportunity for veterans, grant programs and Missouri communities during the 2023 program year,” said Amy Moore, director of the Division of Cannabis Regulation. “We are grateful for our team who has been responsible for ensuring all constitutionally required deadlines were once again met, if not exceeded.”
Division officials said they will continue to implement the adult use program, increase public awareness and program transparency, and begin to operationalize and accredit the Missouri Cannabis State Reference Laboratory.
